Are you looking to work flexibly, in a varied role where you can make a real difference helping people experiencing homelessness and other forms of multiple exclusion to rebuild their lives?

 We are looking for people to join Concrete’s relief bank where you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of our services across the city. Previous experience of the sector is not required as this role provides a great opportunity to learn on the job.  Also, within the team there is a wealth of information that can be drawn from, and training will be provided.

We’re looking for a Relief Worker to provide support and advice to people experiencing homelessness. You’ll make sure customers feel comfortable, can manage their tenancy and signpost to other support such as housing, health and welfare. As a Relief Worker you’ll work flexibly on an ad-hoc or temporary basis and pick up shifts that work best for you.

Job requirements

  • Provide and maintain a friendly and supportive environment at schemes.
  • Cover reception tasks including phone calls, post and enquiries.
  • Support customers in managing their rent and service charge payments, including their benefit claims where necessary.
  • Undertake regular health and safety room checks.
  • Support customers and provide crisis intervention where necessary.
  • Provide advice on housing, health, welfare benefit claims and other issues as necessary.
  • Arrange appointments for customers with services such as GPs and DWP and accompany customers on visits to other services if needed.

What we’re looking for

  • Someone with a genuine understanding and compassion for people without a home, who won’t judge but instead will empower customers and give them a voice.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach and someone able to work around the needs of the customer.
  • Some experience dealing with the public and/or customers in a busy service environment.
  • Some experience dealing with complex/ difficult behaviours in relation to people experiencing multiple disadvantages.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Lived experience would be an advantage.
